Value

What is value?
Is it the amount of money in our pockets?
The price tag on our new shoes?
The number of friends we have on Facebook?

Definition of Value: the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.
Our worth is not determined by money,
Our importance is not determined by what car we have,
Our usefulness is not determined by what clothes we wear

Value is what we make of ourselves
It’s what we do for others
And what we do for ourselves
It is what we do for society.

Value is a choice.
If we choose to contribute
If we choose to make something of ourselves,
We can all have value,
Regardless of what we wear,
Regardless of how much money is in our pockets.

  1. I really enjoyed the rhetorical questions and deeper meaning on the whole poem. The rhetoric really reminded me of the Tao Te Ching. I can relate to this because many times I get caught up in the things of the world, rather than the underlying personal value.

  3. I had the same idea throughout my poem, so it's really nice to see it from a different perspective. It's nice to see that other people have a similar perspective as me--that our value is not determined my materialistic objects.
