Be Your Own Best Friend

No one can read your mind.
No one knows exactly what you are thinking until you tell them.
Most people want to help you, but no one can unless you speak up.

Some say the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
But everyone’s needs are important.
Everyone has feelings and a voice.
They should be able to express themselves and live by their choice.

Follow your dreams, for you only have one life to live.
The last thing anyone wants is to be sitting on their deathbed, thinking about all the chances they did not take.
All the opportunities they denied.
All the dreams that were deemed “unrealistic” or “childish.”
Live for yourself, not others.

Speak up for yourself.

  1. I really like this poem, I think it addresses real problems that society has, and it has nice rhythm. Good job!

  2. I like the way you use being your own best friend. You could have just said love yourself or something but the best friend idea was so much better and creative. The real issues you talked about were quiet serious and you handled them well.

  3. I think this relates to all of us as high school kids because sometimes we have trouble expressing our feelings and talking about our problems. You expressed this feeling very well in your poem, and it flowed very nicely.
