Embrace Your Inner Tao

The ox was built to be big and strong
The fox was built wise and clever
The bird was built with wings to fly
The horse was built to run for miles

The ox who tries to be a fox, is easily hunted
The fox who tries to be a ox, goes hungry
You will only reap the fruits of life, when you embrace who you are
After you find yourself you must continue being you for as long as you live

The fear of not being accepted overwhelms us
Yet, the safest are the ones who are comfortable with who they are
The impostor is always found out and thrown out
A impostor sticks out like a sore thumb
If you are going to be rejected, have them reject your true self
Finding ourselves and staying true is the hardest task a person can attempt
Yet, it is the most rewarding, fruitful mission we will attempt

  1. I like how you intertwined the different ideas from the first stanza in the second stanza. It made it so that it wasn't just there to convey your message but to provide a deeper meaning. At the same time, you connected your ideas from you example to your actual value really well and made the whole poem really interesting

  2. I really liked how you titled the poem to connect right to the Tao. I also liked how you were able to mirror and embrace the style of the Tao.

  3. I really like how you connected the first and second stanzas and used contrast to emphasize the meaning of the poem. Your poem drew a clear image in my head, and I like how it also has a connection to Tao

  4. I liked how you started off with the abilities of each animal and then contrasted them to other animals to show their purpose can not be misused.
