To forget the opinion of others,
And value yourself.
People come and go,
Some will abandon you,
Some you will abandon.
Anyone but you is undependable and uncontrollable,
You are the only one that will always be there.
The person you can talk to in the dead of night.
The person who sticks around even when things get hard.
In the end,
We are left with only ourselves,
And the love we have for ourselves.
We need to be there for others,
but more importantly,
we need to be there for ourselves.
The way you space your stanzas is similar to that of the Tao poems as well as talking about things "you" should be doing. I really like the first line of the poem and how you expand it as the poem goes on. I agree that loving yourself is more important than most things and that you need to focus on that before you can love others because at the end of the day, you only really have yourself.
