Selfish

Selfish
Really?
So now I'm
Selfish
You know,
I love that you said that
Almost as much as I love myself
Apparently...

“Lacking consideration for others;
Concerned chiefly with one’s self”

Define me
Why don't you
Even though
I’m pretty sure
You don’t know
What your labels mean
Or how they make people feel
So
Labeled

How dare you?!
You don’t know me
I don't love myself
Quite the opposite
Actually
I look in the mirror
And all I see are
Imperfections
Almosts and could bes

But you don't know that
‘Cause you don’t care
You felt hurt right then
Needed to lash out,
Retaliate
We all have bruises
Painted on our skins
You marked me with yours
But I didn't need
Another bruise

I don’t think I’m selfish
I don’t think you are
You hurt me
I don’t know exactly why,
Frustrated?
Furious?
Worried?
And maybe just a little
Tiny
Bit

Selfish

  1. I like how you started off the poem with a question as if asking the reader. One line that stood out to me was "We all have bruises.. You marked me with your.. But I didn't need another bruise."
